The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), of Guatemala, delegated to OIRSA the administration of Plant and Animal Quarantine Services, in September 1998, through agreement 263-98.
The purpose was that the Agricultural Protection Service (SEPA), be strengthened with trained professional staff, increasing efficiency in customer service and protecting Guatemalan agricultural health.
For its part, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), of Honduras, also delegated to OIRSA, in 2000, the administration of Plant and Animal Quarantine Services, through agreement No. 84-2000.
In these two countries, SEPA is responsible for carrying out the operational and technical section of the procedures of the Agricultural Quarantine of MAGA and SAG, respectively.
The SEPA is located in all border posts in Guatemala and Honduras that provide services to imports and exports of various merchandise, enforcing the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures.
SEPA inspectors are continuously trained to strengthen the response skills to the demands that regional and international trade demands.
